Memorial weekend…the invasion.

This was the weekend that brings the invasion.

It is the memory that makes the occasion.

Welcome the googans that come into view.

Just until labor day they’ll do what they do.

Thank you to all that have fought and have died, paving the way to turn this tide.

Keeping safe to make the transition, so all of us can just keep on fishin.

Freedom to partake, right on que.

Luvin life on the lake equally…usny…right along with you.

Sunset savvy…

One thing their is no lack of in my view is the sunset along the waterfront.

365 days is a plethora of opportunity and as you can imagine thousands of shots as each one makes its decent from the sky, through clouds, or not…into the dunes and the water.

Romantics love sunsets, fisherman are keen on that time of day, they are the back drop of many life adventures, pictures and places.

With as many that fall right in front of my face, I struggle not to be a sunset snob.   Probably one of the most photographed phenomenons of nature, little is required of the photographer, as the light cast sparks the creative eye, not only on the event, but the subject matter on which it falls.

Hope you enjoy some of the sunset in my view…

First taste…

Spring is full of firsts…from the no color of winter to the first color of spring as it makes itself available,  one step at a time.

First Saturday in May opens the possibility,  for the first taste (since last spring ), of the tastiest fresh water fish in my view.  The flaky flesh of the walleye pike, broiled or fried rivals ocean haddock in its white appearance, texture and taste, as it crosses your palette.

A bump on the head, and a swipe of the knife,  it doesn’t get any fresher from eating to ate.

First to dock…?

Whether or not these fat bellied red breasts are a sign of springs seems to be a matter of debate.

But there is no debate they are the first to land at the dock this spring.

As we are half in and half out of the transformation, their bath tub, still not sure if it wants to be frozen or float.

The ice coverage on the great lakes has been the most extensive since 1979.

2014-04-12 21.44.58_1

The damage is obvious.  Ice dams blocked outlets in January on Ontario…

west winds  brought high water and forcing ice.  You would not have realized, with 3 times the volume of water as sister lake Erie, freezing  almost completely over this winter, we would be left the twisted fate for 2014, from a 59% freeze over.

Once the transition starts, it is usually quick, but…

The nooks and crannies are the last to go.

In the right spot some can handle the liquid temp not far from the solid one, as the thrill of the first swim and retrieve wins out.

As the water becomes suitable for all to float…

we see the robin, as a sign of spring, sure as we witness the melt…

There is no debate we are…

Open water…the last splash

The wait this year has been a test of patience…the winter that won’t end, as we long for the view of open water. Weekend warriors of winter have finally been  foiled as it is the first weekend, April fool’s has finally curtailed their persistence.  The ice finally becoming unsafe for the fodder.

It always amazes me how long they try and hang on…venturing in my view, risking it all, on the edge of melting ice.

But certain as the ugly duck (merganser) winter wains away, finally some signs of relief…as sure as the swan is more lovely, although still white.

As we patiently still wait for the last splash of winter…

Fire and ice…the colors of winter

Colors along the waterfront this time of year have to be captured when you can find them. Just a couple of places I have found a colorful view…luvin life on the lake…usny.

We have always referred to this as the ice house. I don’t know how it got the name, as it housed boats in its day. The sands of time has changed its view…but it remains a consistent one in mine.
